Supervision/Consultation Overview

At Larch, we provide several different types of supervision/consultation to meet the needs of developing and developed clinicians. From supervising interns during their practicums, supervising towards state licensure, mentoring (supervising supervisors) to help clinicians complete the requirements to become a supervisor, consulting on business development, or consulting on issues you are needing extra support in. Below is a list of the types of consulting and supervision we provide, including the fee, as well as a list of our supervisors.

Current Supervisors

Here is a list of our current supervisors and a link to their clinical bios:

Supervision for Practicums/Internships

Most sites will provide supervision directly for your work during your internship or practicum. There are times you may need supervision hours under a supervisor with specific credentials such as an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Or you may just want extra support on specific issues that one of our supervisors specializes in. If this is the case, we are happy to support. In these dynamics, we would require an agreement signed with your site supervisor to make sure we are supporting you appropriately together. Supervision is charged at our clinical rate. Supervision for Licensure in the State of WA

We have several WA approved supervisors to help you meet the requirements of licensure. We often have supervisors who hold different license types, allowing you to meet the requirements of your specific license. Note, some states may allow WA approved supervisors to supervise towards your states license. If you do the research, we may be able to support you as well. We offer two forms of supervision to meet your licensure type.

Group Supervision (3-6 Members for LMFTA’s only)
LMFTA’s are permitted to engage in group supervision to meet a portion of their supervision hour requirements. Engaging in group supervision can help offset the price of supervision if there are multiple supervisees present. In order to meet the standard of group supervision according to WAC 246-809-110, the group can have 3-6 associate members. This group can be done virtually through a Larch hosted zoom platform, or in person. Groups often meet for 2-3 hours once a month. Groups must be formed by the participants. We do not currently create groups that single members can join. The group scheduling and number of supervisees will be established for blocks of meetings. Meaning the group commits to a certain number of appointments, usually by number of appointments or durations in months. The cost of group supervision starts at 2x our clinical fee for the first three members, and then is an additional $20 per added member. Example, to make numbers easier, say our fee is $100. For 3 members, it would be $100×2=$200, divided between 3 people=$66.67 per person. For 4 members it would be $100×2+20=$220, divided by 4 would be $55. Click here to see our current rate.

Individual Supervision (1-2 Members for LMHCA’s, and LMFTA’s)
In the state of WA, individual supervision, also defined as “one-on-one supervision” according to WAC 246-809-110 and “Immediate Supervision” as defined by WAC 246-809-210, can be made up of 1-2 members. These appointments can be done virtually through a Larch hosted zoom meeting, or in person. Supervision with 1 member is charged at our clinical rate, and individual supervision with two members is charged at 1.5 our clinical rate. Click here to see our current rate.

AAMFT Approved Supervisor Mentor

We offer supervision mentoring to meet the current AAMFT Approved Supervisor Cand. Requirement of receiving 36 hours of supervision mentoring.

Consultation for Specific Issues

Many of us have experience in specific issues, and are available to consult around them. For consultation, our goal is to help meet the ethical requirement of not practicing in isolation, but do not hold the liability of your clinical decision. If there is a specific issue you would like to consult on, you may complete the form at the end of this page and note that and we will see if there is a therapist on our team that would be an appropriate resource. Consultations are charged at our clinical rate, billed in half hour segments. Click here to see our current rate.

Business Practice Consulting

Thinking about the idea of building a practice but still have questions that need answers to fully know if it is right for you? Maybe you are ready to launch a practice and don’t know where to start. Or maybe you are already in the trenches with your practice and need some guidance to get things unstuck or take it to the next level. When you are launching a practice, stabilizing a practice, optimizing a practice, launching a program in a school setting, converting your practice into one with employees or private contractors, or some other business endeavor in the practice realm, it is beneficial to have a mentor. Before I (Dan Claussen) started Larch, and at different developmental cycles of the journey, I engaged in various forms of business consulting. From individual consulting, to business groups focused on larger practice structure. As a business owner, you will always find the things that are unique to your company, AND, there are a lot of things that are common across companies. Business consulting helps you not reinvent the wheel where it is not necessary, and provides space to conceptualize new ideas in a way you can launch a thought-out program or company. Appointments are scheduled as needed and billed at our clinical rate per half hour. It is encouraged to think through questions ahead of time to utilize the time well.

Dan Claussen and Larch’s Development

Clinical, Educational, and Person-Centered Experience
I received my AAMFT Approved Supervisor Designation in 2021. I began my candidacy and started supervising in 2019. I received my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University in 2016, and my Bachelors of Arts in Youth Ministry from Moody in Chicago in 2012. I started seeing clients as a Marriage and Family Therapist for Larch Counseling in 2016. Before I began working as a private practitioner, I worked as a clinical intern at Compass Health in the family clinic, consulting with young kids, adolescents, and their families from Sep 2014-Jun 2016.

I am trained in level 1 and 2 of Lifespan Integration, and participate in monthly CIMBS training.

Business Experience/History of Larch
My experience as a practice owner started in November of 2015 before I graduated from my master’s program in June 2016. As I prepared to graduate, I started creating my branding and set up my sol prop. and obtained my business license. However, my business experience goes back even further than that. In 2008, my brother and I began a residential window cleaning company to support ourselves while we were attending school in Chicago. Over the course of the next nine years, we expanded it to include many other services, filling different needs as we saw them arise. We eventually moved it back home to the greater Seattle area, grew it to the point of hiring employees for the last three years, and eventually sold it in 2017 when I made the launch into full time counseling.

Jumping forward to my development of Larch Counseling, as I already mentioned, I started consulting with people, building a business plan, and developing the business name long before I officially launched it to accept clients. Business plans are fluid things, so it evolved and changed over the course of the first year as the theoretical plan hit the practical function of real-world application. About 8 months into my practice, I hit my caseload goal to be able to enter fulltime counseling, and sold our window cleaning company. 15 months after my first client with Larch I realized the practice needed to change, and after a few more months of consulting and planning, in December 2017 I made the decision to convert Larch to a PLLC in preparation for hiring Larch’s first employee. In the next 5 months, I created procedures and policies, and began interviewed to bring on a team member to my single office practice. In May of 2018, I offered my first position to Aubrey, who is now acting as Larch Counseling PLLC’s Clinical Director. In early 2019, we expanded to a four-office suite to prepare for growth, and brought on a few more team members. That same year, we started our clinical internship program within the schools. There was then a crisis in our community that we responded to, and from that, established programs within our local school district with licensed clinicians, providing psychotherapy to students on campus in the fall of 2019. Towards the end of 2020, after a little over a half a year of a global pandemic, we saw a strong need in our neighboring community, and launched our second office location in North Bend Washington in December 2020 as a trial in a short-term lease. Within a few months, the trail proved to have a strong prediction of success. We made the decision to make a permanent home in a newly vacant office space created by the pandemic. We built out a four-office suite and slowly staffed it with clinical interns and licensed clinicians. Our Duvall location continued to grow, and we expanded in 2022 by adding a 5th office room to our suite. In 2024, we circled back to North Bend when another adjacent space opened up and we expanded by adding another 3 offices. At the time of this writing (December 2024), we have five offices at our Duvall clinic, and seven at our North Bend clinic. Our programs have expanded and contracted, but Larch as a whole has continued to strengthen its impact in the communities we serve. Our school program has changed as budgeting needs of the district have changed. The journey of business ownership always continues to change as culture and needs change.
